Owen's Sunday best?

Well today Owen showed up for church in dad pants. Because I got up and left with Emma and Caitlin and went to prayer, I was not here to oversee the dressing of the boy. And Olivia didn't see his outfit either and because of that, he showed up as a fashion nightmare. So when he came walking down the aisle this morning I was immediately horrified when I saw his acid washed looking urkel pants he was sporting. He could have cared less but his sisters and I were stunned. His outfit consisted of a lime green golf shirt....which is fine for summer but it was 40 degrees outside, dad jeans that hit him at his ankles, that were clearly visible because he had no fricking socks on. The only bright spot on the horizon was a Corsicana hoodie. But overall, the whole outfit was a fashion disaster. When Austin saw him, he in fact walked over to Caitlin....both still on the worship platform and told her, "Go buy your brother some decent clothes." It was that serious.

So tonight I stripped him of his dad pants.....not off of his body of course.....and his sisters and I made him try on the good jeans he actually does have and could care less about wearing. They looked really good and they were right next to the awful ones he chose to wear this morning. And now because of what happened today, we have a contingency plan in place. Before he leaves the house, he must have female approval. John absolutely can't be trusted as a fashion judge.

And this revelation hit me tonight. What happened regarding Owen’s bad clothes choices today I believe is the equivalent of something from years ago. Any time I was in the hospital after the birth of a baby, John would show up with any of the already birthed children wearing something in the neighborhood of a swim suit and cowboy boots.....and looking at me like, "What.....what's wrong with it?" I was always hormonal and horrified but all the other moms had the same situation going on with their own kids. Nurses just shook their heads in disbelief but understanding completely the predicament we were all in. Clueless dads “in charge” of wardrobes and groceries and bedtimes and suppers……it’s just too much. But proudly they would show up, hopefully with the right kids but with a daughter wearing 3 headbands, one pink sock and one red one saying something like, “She looks fine.” I guess it’s just one of the rite of passages.

Hopefully before Owen turns 30, his sisters and I will be able to turn the fashion reins back over to him….but that may still be too soon. We shall see.

Hahaha, that is too funny. And dads just let us wear what 'we feel like wearing'. It's astounding.
