When we're in Corsicana, each night my girls and I do a late night ride. Whatever families are there, most of the time just the girls, will all pile in a car and ride around the cemetery and go down town as well. That's how we end our night. We're always looking for critters, hoping to find something we might not have seen before. Last year, one night we saw an owl sitting on a fence near the cemetery. He stayed there for about 10 minutes as we sat and enjoyed the view. We've seen lots of bunnies and one fall we saw about 8 skunks in one ride.
One night last week as we were coming home, right next to the school on our way to Gran's, we saw all these little pairs of gleaming eyes in a field. So we pulled into the parking lot and pulled out our handy dandy Q beam and discovered 6 to 8 coyotes just hanging out in the grass. At first we weren't sure if they were coyotes, but each night we kept going back and each night they kept being there and we finally decided they actually were in fact coyotes.
Since I don't have a night vision camera, we don't have photographic evidence, but it was a fun thing to witness. They kept their distance but didn't seem fearful of us at all. They were there every night except one when it was sprinkling...apparently coyotes don't like to get wet. Even though they looked pretty cute from where we were sitting, if I lived there, I'd be locking up all my animals!
