Corsicana Part 2

Although on this Corsicana trip there was very little sitting outside time due to not wanting to become icicles, it was still a fun trip. In between mowing and fence mending we sandwiched in lots of Collin Street, riding around and ice cream. The actual amounts of ice cream will forever remain a closely guarded secret but, a yummy secret it will be. One afternoon while riding through town, this truck was parked in a parking lot. Did you know Wolf Brand Chili originated in Corsicana? Well, it did. The commercial goes like this, "Neighbor how long has it been since you had a hot steaming bowl of Wolf Brand Chili?" "Well, that's too long." Gran used to quote it for us.

Carrie came down Sunday for an overnight visit and the next day, after our chores, once again we took off for an adventure ride. We traveled the back roads to places familiar as well as some not so much. We rode back to Richland County, God's country, and I couldn't help but wish a little that Gran had set up house in that area. It's a beautiful place to behold.

As we were riding down the highway in Richland, we saw a little white calf on the wrong side of the fence and found some rancher men down the road to tattle to. We showed them where the little guy was and then we were off on our way again making the world safe for heifers and bulls alike. We are just awesome like that. HA HA HA HA HA....I continue to crack myself up regularly.

I took these photos somewhere along the way to document the canine riding companions. They always tried calling shotgun, but their wishes were summarily dismissed each time.

Maisy looking for the camera.

Over the course of our last full day there, we gathered wood for an outside fire to finish off the trip. All was ready and right at dark we lit er up to complete the trip and many, but not all of our traditions were checked off the list. Well, about 7 seconds after the fire got good and going, the wind kicked up again and it caused for some tense moments. That fire whipped around in every direction and at one point, it took me in! The peeps standing around said as the wind shifted, the fire came right at me and I was engulfed for one half a second. It was one half a second long enough for my arm hair to get singed! It was almost roast Lisa.....whew.....I just relived it. I'm lucky to be alive.

Of course as with many trips, the morning we woke up to come home, the weather was just about perfect. Typical. I looked out at the big pasture and saw the amber waves of grain and had to have a photo op. There were no purple mountains anywhere.

I love being here at this place more than anywhere in the world.

Can't wait to go back.

The end until next time.
